LightCam Privacy Policy – We Put Your Privacy First

LightCam is a smart light + security camera. Most processing happens right on your device for maximum privacy. Triggered video clips are stored in the cloud (encrypted) only if you choose to enable it.

Our core promises

  • Privacy is more important than revenue, features, or growth.
  • We fully support the 4th Amendment (protection from unreasonable searches) and the 5th Amendment (protection from self-incrimination).
  • We will never hand over any user data to law enforcement, governments, or third parties without a valid court-issued warrant or subpoena — and we will notify you whenever legally allowed.
  • We will never use any video clips, images, audio, or personal data to train AI models, machine-learning systems, or anything similar without your explicit, separate, affirmative consent every single time.

What we do NOT collect

  • Constant live video or audio streams (unless you explicitly turn on live streaming)
  • Facial recognition data or person profiles
  • Location tracking beyond basic Wi-Fi setup info
  • Audio recordings outside of triggered clips
  • Data from your phone’s other apps or contacts

Where your data lives and how it is protected

Most video processing — motion detection, alerts, and decisions — happens directly on your LightCam device. Nothing leaves your home network unless you choose to save a triggered clip to the cloud.

If you enable cloud storage:

  • Clips are encrypted with AES-256 at rest and in transit.
  • Only you can access them through your account.
  • No LightCam employee can view your clips.

How we use your data

We use it only to deliver the LightCam service:

  • Send you motion or sound alerts
  • Let you view, download, and manage your clips
  • Deliver automatic security and feature updates
  • Answer your support questions

That is the complete list. No advertising. No selling. No profiling.

Sharing and selling

  • We never sell your data.
  • We never share it with advertisers or data brokers.
  • We never use your clips or personal data for AI training without your explicit, separate, affirmative consent every single time.
  • Limited sharing only happens with trusted service providers (e.g., cloud hosting, payment processors) who are legally required to follow the same strict privacy rules.

Government and law-enforcement requests

  • We stand firmly by the 4th and 5th Amendments.
  • We will only respond to a valid court-issued warrant or subpoena.
  • We will challenge any request that appears overbroad or improper.
  • We will notify you as soon as the law allows us to do so.
  • We will publish a simple annual transparency report about legal requests received (without identifying any individual).

Your rights

You are in full control:

  • Download all your clips at any time
  • Delete any clip or your entire account
  • Turn cloud storage off completely (local-only mode)
  • See, correct, or export your data
  • Limit or stop any non-essential processing

We honor rights under CCPA/CPRA, Virginia CDPA, Colorado CPA, and similar state laws — quickly, for free, and without retaliation.

Data retention and deletion

  • Cloud clips are stored for 30 days (default; you can adjust this in settings) unless you change it.
  • You can delete any clip instantly from the app.
  • When you delete your account, we permanently erase everything within 30 days (subject to limited legal retention requirements, after which those records are also destroyed).

Security and breach notification

We follow strong security practices: end-to-end encryption, regular third-party audits, automatic firmware updates, and strict access controls.

If a security breach ever affects your data, we will notify you by email within 72 hours (or sooner if required by law), explain what happened, and tell you steps to protect yourself.

Children’s privacy

LightCam is not designed or marketed for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If we learn we have, we delete it immediately.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. For material changes, we will email you and give you at least 30 days to review before they take effect.
