LightCam Cookie Policy – Plain English, Short List

LightCam is built on the same principle as our Privacy Policy: we put your privacy first. That carries over to how we use cookies on lightcam.com. Today the list is short, and we want to keep it that way.

This policy explains what cookies are, which ones we use, and how you can change your mind at any time.

What a cookie is (quickly)

A cookie is a small text file the website saves in your browser. Some are required for the site to work. Others are optional — they help us understand how the site is used or remember a preference. We also use a few similar technologies (local storage, pixels) and treat them the same way as cookies in this policy.

Our promise

  • We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles about you.
  • We do not sell or share data collected by cookies with data brokers.
  • Anything beyond what is strictly necessary is off until you say yes, and you can turn it off again at any time.

The categories we use

We sort cookies into four categories. You control three of them.

CategoryWhat it doesDefault
Strictly necessaryKeeps you logged in, remembers what is in your cart, protects against fraud, and stores your cookie choices. The site cannot function without these.Always on
FunctionalRemembers small preferences like region or display settings.Off
AnalyticsHelps us see which pages are useful and which are broken. We only use privacy-respecting analytics that do not track you across other sites.Off
MarketingMeasures whether an ad you clicked led to a purchase, or shows you a relevant LightCam ad on a partner site.Off

What is actually set today

We try not to add cookies we do not need. As of the last update of this policy, lightcam.com sets the following:

NameCategoryPurposeLifetime
lc_consentStrictly necessaryStores your cookie choices so we can honor them.1 year
Stripe (__stripe_mid, __stripe_sid) — only on checkout pagesStrictly necessaryFraud prevention for payments. Set by Stripe when you reach the checkout.Up to 1 year

That is the complete list. We do not currently run analytics, advertising, or social-media cookies on lightcam.com. If that ever changes, we will update this page and ask for your consent before turning anything new on.

Third parties we load

Some pages include content from other companies. They do not set cookies on our pages today, but they do see your IP address when your browser asks them for a file:

  • Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) — serves the typefaces used on the site. Google states it does not set cookies for font requests.
  • Stripe — only loads on checkout. Required to process payments. Stripe’s own privacy notice applies to payment data.

If you would prefer not to load Google Fonts at all, your browser or extensions can block third-party requests; the site will fall back to a system font.

How to change your mind

You have three ways to manage your choices:

  1. Cookie banner. The first time you visit, you can choose Accept all, Only essential, or Customize.
  2. “Cookie preferences” link. It lives in the footer of every page. Open it any time to change categories.
  3. Your browser. Every modern browser lets you block or delete cookies. Some site features (like staying logged in) will stop working if you block strictly necessary cookies.

Your choice is stored in the lc_consent cookie and in your browser’s local storage so the site can honor it on every page.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser sends GPC, we treat it as opting out of analytics and marketing categories. Older "Do Not Track" headers are not standardized, so we do not rely on them — please use the cookie banner instead.

Your rights

If you live in California, the EU, the UK, or another region with privacy laws (CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, UK GDPR, Virginia CDPA, Colorado CPA, and similar), you have the right to:

  • Know what data is collected and why.
  • Access, correct, or delete that data.
  • Opt out of any non-essential processing.
  • Not be retaliated against for exercising any of these rights.

We honor these requests for everyone, regardless of where you live. Email privacy@lightcam.com and we will respond within 5 business days.

Changes to this policy

If we add a new category of cookies — or a new third-party service that uses them — we will update this page and ask for fresh consent before the new cookies load. For material changes, we will also email account holders and give at least 30 days to review.
